Artificial intelligence: a patent practitioner’s perspective

As AI technology advances, the EPO (European Patent Office) intends to explore the possibility of including further information to the Guidelines, such as in the form of examples related to patenting AI.

This event will give an opportunity to experienced users to exchange ideas on several AI examples from the technical fields of Mobility & Mechatronics, Healthcare, Biotechnology & Chemistry, and Information & Communications Technology. The discussion will be conducted in the form of interactive workshops for each of the technical fields. The workshops will be moderated by EPO experts who will also use the opportunity to explain the current practice of the EPO to examination of applications directed to AI. The participants will be allocated to a specific group according to their preference and will be provided with materials for the discussion in advance. It is advised that participants have prior knowledge of the EPO examination approach to Computer-implemented inventions. In preparation for the event, pre-reading material will be provided after registration closes.

You may choose one of the following workshops when you register:

1. GPU-accelerated training of a neural network, computer science

2. Face/non-face classifier: training a neural network & neural network device, computer vision

3. Diagnosing diabetes: A computer-implemented method of disease prediction, life science

4. Spray coating: A method that combines neural networks and fuzzy logic rules, industrial process control

5. Keeping aircraft under control: Coupling air pressure sensors to a neural network

6. Predicting a crash: Airbag activation and image recognition in real-time, automotive
