Oct 2, 2021 Overview of Conducted Webinars by Kanoon IP Academy: 2021 Summer Calendar

Continuing its activities for building IP capacity among the Farsi-language people and increasing public access to IP-related education materials, Kanoon IP held various training topics as online webinars this summer under the “Tuesdays with IP flavor” program. Interestingly near 1000 people registered in the webinars, while 55 percent of them attended the registered webinars. Since the global average webinar attendance rate is around 40%, the kanoon IP attendant rate (55% attendant rate) seems to be perfect and implies how were registrants interested in the topics designed by Kanoon IP.

The 2021 summer calendar of the “Tuesdays with IP” program were held on the following topics:

  •        Fundamentals of Intellectual Property;
  •        Patent importance in the protection of innovative technologies;
  •        Anatomy of a patent document;
  •        Fundamentals of patent information search;
  •        Basics of patent searching in PatenScope database’
  •       Overview of PCT System for globally Protection of inventions: potentials and advantages;
  •       National approaches for protecting innovations

Moreover, two other topics titled as “presenting Kanoon IP service and facilities”, and “instruction to filing patent application abroad via Kanoon IP portal’ have been designed based on the inquiries of inventors who are interested in filing their invention in the foreign states and need Kanoon IP services and supports.

In the 2021 “Tuesdays with IP” summer calendar,  in addition to the Kanoon IP typical training programs which were designed based on the audience's requirements, a new topic was introduced which was widely welcomed by the participants: “Anatomy of the patent” was introduced for the first time and had the most registrant and the highest attendant rate. In this webinar, the different parts of a typical patent document, the aims, importance, and structure of each part in a patent document were discussed and all related attendance questions were replied to.

In the designed courses by Kanoon IP Academy, participants basically learn what IPR is (with a special focus on patents), and why it matters. The attendants, in some other courses, become familiar with the importance of patents, patentability requirements, and the ways for protecting inventions overseas. In this regard, in one specific course, they learn about the PCT system, its procedure, and its benefits. The participants also deepen their knowledge regarding the importance of patent information and its usage advantageous for the various groups. They also become familiar with searching patent strategies and methods, while with this regard, they learn how to search in some well-known and popular free available patent databases.

The analysis of the attendance implies that most of the participants (around 65 %) have higher educational status: Master or Ph.D. degree. This analysis results can indicate the level of awareness in higher educated people in Iran of #intellectualproperty importance and functions to protect their scientific achievements and future carrier goals.
